World’s biggest and oldest turtle has been captured! This giant turtle is almost 530 years old. It lives in Amazon base and weighs 362,87 kg (800 pounds). It is a lot longer than the car you see in the photo and its nails can dig toughest rocky territories. People have been warned by the police not to get too close even for taking a photo!
Alright, I am sure that you have seen this photo on social media nowadays. It gets published with topics like “world’s biggest turtle!“, “Amazon monster found!” or -the one I love- “This giant turtle was last seen in 1892!”
Cool down guys, no body has seen such a turtle in 1892. Actually it has never ever existed. Yes, it is true that there are interesting-looking creatures in Amazon base (read my Amazon: Diving Into the Wild article for it), but this “world’s largest turtle” is not real; It is a fake.
This photo has been taken from the movie “Gamera the Brave” It is a Japanese movie made in 2006. The Gamera gets wounded. They transport it with a -possibly military- truck to help and examine it.
In some sources, it is told that this turtle is a Redfoot Tortoise (Geochelone Carbonaria). However, even adult Redfood Tortoises can only grow up to 12-18 inches (30-45 cm), not 150-200 inches (4-5 meters). You can find extra information about Redfoot Tortoise from the link below.
